One of five children, I was born and raised in the Evansville, Indiana area. My wife, LaDonna, and I married in January, 1985 and in time had two boys of our own to raise. Both are grown and gone now, and LaDonna and I have adjusted to the empty nest, although LaDonna tells me I make it easy for her to forget the kids are out of the house! We moved from Southern Indiana to Fishers in 2003 as a chosen career move on my part. Very soon thereafter, the Lord began moving in my life. More accurately, I think, with me out of my “normal element” back home, I had become aware of the Lord’s movement in my life. Intrigued, at first, I soon found myself almost compelled to grow and learn about the Christian life and discipleship, and entered the diocesan Ecclesial Lay Ministry program in late 2007. As I experienced this time of study and prayer, I came to better understand my identity in Christ, and also began to understand my role in building up the Kingdom. After a number of “Holy Spirit moments” around that time, I began to discern a call to the Permanent Diaconate, and was ordained a Permanent Deacon in September, 2018. During all of this time, I worked in Carmel for a large company which coordinates power flows on the electric grid. I learned a lot in my time there, and am so grateful for the experience, but, like all good things, it came to an end for me in September, 2020, the result of corporate restructuring. Suddenly, it seemed, the Lord was now calling me out of the professional, corporate world, and into the mission field he has been forming me to work in. I realize now that he has been forming me for this work all of my life. Long ago I adopted Thomas Merton’s prayer that begins with the words “My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going.” If you are not familiar with it, I recommend a Google search on that phrase. It’s an awesome prayer that applies to all of us. Now, I am so excited and happy to be here, and cannot wait to see what the Lord has in store for us as we now work together to build up the Kingdom!
